The Lord Loves Liberty.

Many people believe the big lie that God is against personal freedom and the devil is for your freedom. Many young people are convinced that to be free they must leave the Lord’s ways.

Freedom and liberty are NOT terms that mean anything specific without a context. That is why some people promote some freedoms and some promote others. We usually use them to mean one of two dynamics. We use freedom as freedom TO DO something or freedom FROM something.

,God knows that the troubled state of our world is due to the misuse of our freedoms due to mankind’s fallen nature. But He does not take the freedoms away. As Christians He gives us a new nature, the Word, the workings of the Holy Spirit and the Ministry gifts to help us use our freedoms correctly. His work in the world is largely connected to the decisions and actions of His people. Use your liberty wisely.

If you believe your freedom rests with following the devil’s path, that use of freedom ends in bondage and death. BUT GOD wants you to be free to chose life, peace, joy, continued freedom. He wants you to be free from fear, addiction sickness, and more. He never puts a restriction before you except that it will protect you from sickness, poverty, bondage and other works of the devil…in other words keep you free.

THE LORD IS THE CHAMPION OF LIBERTY.

God and Liberty

Our God is a God who wants you and I to be free. Jesus, himself, read Is. 61:1 to describe His mission. “The spirit of the Lord is upon me; for the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings to the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;”

One of the biggest lies the devil uses is that God is against liberty and that the devil is the champion of liberty. The exact opposite is true. The so called freedom the devil offers ends in bondage not freedom. (Pr. 5:22, John 8:34, Ro. 6:16)

Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is Liberty, Ga. 2:4

Any restriction or law God ever instituted was there to protect His people and their lives. What did Jesus say was the bottom line of God’s law when He was asked what was the greatest commandment? His response was not one of bondage but one of life and liberty.

“Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like unto it. Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” Matthew 22:37-40

God, the giver of life, the giver of liberty is not about restricting you, limiting your freedom. He is about RELATIONSHIP. If we have the proper relationships with Him and others the rules, the restrictions are unnecessary for we will automatically do the right things, the things that keep us free.

Who wants you free?

  • Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 2 Cor. 3:17 NIV
  • To the Jews who had believed in Him, Jesus said, “if you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. John 8:31-32 NIV

Isn’t it amazing that we get it all turned around. The devil’s lie is that sin is the road of freedom and God only wants to restrict you and keep you from having a fun life. Scripture paints a rather different picture. Consider John 10-10. Many theologians interpret that verse as a comparison Jesus gives between Himself and the Devil.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.  John 10:10 NIV

If that thief is the devil and he comes only to kill, steal, and destroy; what do you suppose he has in mind when he tempts us with sin? He will trade a little fun, some pleasure if in the end he can use the activity to harm you. Consider addictions. They work that way You go from fun to dependence to loss…even death.

God wants you free living a successful life. He has proven His love for you.
